The following rules and reccomendations are valid only on flights operated by Oceanair Linhas Aéreas S/A (O6).

Check-in and boarding

 

For a smooth boarding experience on international flights, please observe the following orientations:
 

  • The Self Check-in is only released to flights operated by the O6 and only for passengers traveling from Brazil to Bogota;
  • For international boarding please report at least two hours prior to your flight.
  • You need a valid original photo ID. The type of the required document may vary according to your destination. Please verify all necessary documents before the day of your trip;
  • For some destinations, you are required to present a passport. Beware!
  • For Mercosur countries, or countries who have travel agreements with Brazil (Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, Venezuela and Bolivia), check-in is possible with just an original photo ID. The ID has to be is in a good condition and issued within the last 10 (ten) years;
  • To avoid problems at boarding, be aware of item restrictions for your hand luggage;
  • If possible, avoid carrying items which could trigger the metal detector. Check your clothes, accessories and the contents of your pockets. In case of medical equipment triggering the metal detector, documentation proving the passenger's state will be required;
  • Be aware of your boarding gate; if necessary, seek help from an Avianca employee or from an airport official. Always have your travel documents ready to speed up boarding.

 



Vaccines

 

It is extremely important to check if there are vaccines required or recommended for your final destination and/or connection port.

According to the World Health Organization and Anvisa, countries of South America, Central America, the Caribbean (Barbados, Tobago etc.), among others, may request your International Vaccination Certificate and Yellow Fever Immunization Document.Entry may be denied to a passenger who does not comply.

The yellow fever vaccine must be taken at least 11 days prior to travel, due to the incubation period.
Yellow fever vaccine is recommended when travelling to Colombia.

*Obligatory for passengers travelling to Arauca (AUC).

Transporting valuables

 

According to Brazil's Central Bank determination (Article 1 of Resolution 2,524/98), when entering or leaving Brazil with total cash exceeding ten thousand reas (R$10.000) in local or foreign currency, you must submit to the Federal Revenue a declaration describing all values in cash, checks or traveler's checks you carry.

Transporting liquids in your hand luggage

 

For international flights you are allowed to carry a total of 1 liter of liquid substances in your hand luggage.

All liquid and creamy substances must be organized in flasks of no more than 100ml or 100g, and gathered in a sealed transparent plastic bag. The maximum capacity of the plastic bag should be of 1 liter, not exceeding dimensions of 20x20cm, permitting transportation of a maximum of 10 flasks of 100ml each.

Correct procedure for transporting liquid and creamy substances in international flights:

  • Maximum capacity per flask: 100ml or 100g.
  • Maximum quantity of flasks of 100ml: 10 units.
  • Correct place to transport the flasks: a plastic, transparent, sealable package.
  • Maximum capacity of the liquids transportation package: 1 liter.
  • Maximum dimensions of the plastic package: 20X20cm


Liquids cannot be transported in flasks with capacity over 100ml, even if the flask is only partially full.

These restrictions apply to all passengers on international flights departing from Brazilian airports (including those part of domestic trips, or those needing to utilize the international departure hall).

There are no restrictions for medication accompanied with prescription, baby foods and liquids part of special diets, as long as the passenger carries quantities sufficient for the duration of the flight only, including connections. These items must be presented during the security inspection at the departure area.

 



Products acquired at the duty free

 

For trips to the US and Europe, liquids in packages superior of 100 ml (3.4 oz) can be carried in the hand luggage following these conditions:

  • The products must have been purchased in Duty Free shops and/or on-board the plane, with the receipt date inferior to 48 (forty-eight) hours prior to the flight;
  • Bottles are transparent and translucent;
  • Bottles are fitted in transparent plastic bags (STEB's – Secure Tamper-Evident Bags);
  • Bottles must remain closed until arrival at the final destination.


IMPORTANT: During connections, if detected that the product does not comply with the standards above, the bottle may be dispatched in the checked baggage, provided that access to it is available at the connection.

 



Checked luggage

 

As per international conventions for baggage and passenger transport, ratified by Brazil, as well as the Brazilian Aeronautics Code, Avianca is not responsible for loss, destruction or damage of fragile baggage, or baggage previously damaged, ill-packed or with perishable contents.



Specialbaggage

 

Specific rules apply for some special items. Transporting of items not specified in this site is subject to prior analysis and acceptance by Avianca.

Avianca reserves the right to refuse transportation of any luggage which puts flight security in danger. Refusal may occur due to weight, dimensions, or because item type is not recommended for aerial transport. For instance, musical instruments, sports baggage or any bulky items of baggage that cannot be transported in the cargo hold.

All items must be adequately packaged to be accepted as baggage.

Attention! The information below only applies to itineraries operated by Avianca. In case your trip has connection with another airline, always check their own baggage policy.

The sum of dimensions of each volume (height + width + length) must not exceed 158 centimeters or 62 inches. Volumes with dimensions superior of 158 centimeters (height + width + length) must be transported as cargo. Please contact Avianca Cargo central.

Sports equipment which measure more than 230 centimeters (90 inches) or weight more than 45 kilos, can only be transported as cargo and are subjected to the applicable policies.

All equipment listed bellow is part of the free baggage allowance and is subjected to charges for excess weight, quantity and/or dimensions.




Transporting a violoncello

 

Due to the instrument's fragility, a violoncello has to be placed in the passenger cabin on a separate seat (just like a regular passenger).

Conditions The cello case must be hard in order to avoid possible damage to the instrument, passengers or crew; Reservation and payment must be accomplished ahead of time through our reservation center;

Restrictions
Transporting a violoncello does not confer the passenger the right to another free baggage allowance; Dimensions (height + width + length) cannot exceed these measures: 1.60m + 0.70cm + 0.60cm; Maximum weight, including the instrument case, must not exceed 75kg.




Bow and arrows

 

The bow, arrows and maintenance equipment should be placed in a package capable of protecting the articles from all damage.

Restrictions
Damaged packaging, or packaging incapable of resisting handling, will not be accepted.

In case equipment exceeds weight and dimensions restrictions, excess luggage charges will apply, and transporting the equipment will be subject to space availability..




Bicycle

 

For leisure or competition, with a single seat, without engine, and with pedals detached and handlebars fixed to the side. All items must be properly packaged.

Restrictions
Damaged packaging, or packaging incapable of resisting handling, as well as damaged equipment, will not be accepted.




Bowling

 

Restrictions
Damaged packaging, or packaging incapable of resisting handling, as well as damaged equipment, will not be accepted.
In case equipment exceeds weight and dimensions restrictions, excess luggage charges will apply, and transporting the equipment will be subject to space availability.




Ski and snowboard

 

Items accepted: a pair of ski, two poles, boots and shoes. The passenger has to pack properly all ski and/or snowboard equipment, so as to protect it well. In case the equipment is not well protected, the passenger will be liable for any possible damage.

There is no quantity limit for this type of sports equipment.
Damaged packaging, or packaging incapable of resisting handling, as well as damaged equipment, will not be accepted.
In case equipment exceeds weight and dimensions restrictions, excess luggage charges will apply, and transporting the equipment will be subject to space availability.




Water ski

 

Items accepted: a pair of ski, two poles, boots and shoes. The passenger has to package properly all ski and/or snowboard equipment, so as to protect it well. In case the equipment is not well protected, the passenger will be liable for any possible damage.

There is no quantity limit for this type of sports equipment. Damaged packaging, or packaging incapable of resisting handling, as well as damaged equipment, will not be accepted. Golf

 

Golf clubs and a golf bag are accepted, as long as they are completely protected.

Restrictions
Damaged packaging, or packaging incapable of resisting handling, as well as damaged equipment, will not be accepted.




Scuba diving

 

Oxygen cylinders will not be accepted!

Items accepted: a manometer, a snorkel, a harpoon, a pair of fins, a life jacket, a weight belt, a regulator and a mask.
The high intensity underwater or diving lights will only be accepted if the heat-generating battery component has been packaged separately, preventing its activation during transport.
All loose batteries must be protected against short circuit.

Restrictions
Damaged packaging, or packaging incapable of resisting handling, as well as damaged equipment, will not be accepted.

Fishing

 

Items accepted: a pair of boots, net and fishing pole. The passenger must properly package all fishing equipment, so as to protect it well.

Damaged packaging, or packaging incapable of resisting handling, as well as damaged equipment, will not be accepted.

Surf y Windsurf

 

A maximum of 2 cases are acceptable per flight (free of charge), with 2 boards in each package, with maximum height of 2 meters.

Restrictions
Damaged packaging, or packaging incapable of resisting handling, as well as damaged equipment, will not be accepted.
 



Kayaks and canoes

 

Avianca does not transport kayaks and canoes.




Home appliances

 

Due to their weight and dimensions, some items cannot be transported on Avianca flights, such as:

Stoves, washing machines and similar items.
These types of equipment should be transported as cargo. In such case, please contact Avianca Cargo Central to verify the necessary requirements.

Refrigerators and freezers cannot be transported due to the gas they contain, which is considered dangerous for the airplane. For more information, please contact Avianca Cargo Central.

Microwaves, mixers, coffeemakers and other home appliances can be transported both as carry-on and checked luggage. They should be properly packaged and observing the necessary standards.

We remind you that transportation of any such item may be refused in case of irregularity.




Television and/or monitors

 

1 (one) television set or monitor per passenger is permitted, up to 32'' and 23kg.

These devices are part of the free baggage allowance.

Televisions sets and/or monitors must be placed in appropriate boxes to maintain their integrity.




Animals, vegetables, and their parts

 

The Ministry of agriculture and food supplies warns that it is prohibited the entry on Brazilian territory of any animal or vegetable, including food, seeds, veterinarian products or pesticides, without import authorization and sanitary or phytosanitary certification.
This prohibition aims to prevent introduction of plant pests and animal illness agents which could compromise sanitation and agricultural production in Brazil.
Please check the applicable rules and necessary forms on the website of the Federal Revenue department and present yourself at the International agricultural surveillance after retrieving your luggage.
