The rules are valid only for flights operated by Oceanair Linhas Aéreas S / A (O6).
Avianca Brasil does not offer the pet transport service in the cabin for reservations in conjunction with other airlines (Interline). In the case of service animals, if there are any parts operated by another company in your reservation, check the conditions and rules with the company operating the flight.
Pet in the Cabin
Avianca Brasil accepts just domestic animals - dogs and cats - transported in the passenger cabin. We do not transport animals identified as laboratory animals, wild birds and endangered Brazilian wildlife.
Transportation of 3 (three) animals per flight in the passenger cabin is limited. Among them, 1 (one) per passenger and 1 (one) per package, except in the case of a litter (separated from the mother), belonging to the same female. In this case, 2 puppies are accepted in the same transport box, following the same accommodation procedures.
The embarkation of animals in the cabin under the responsibility of an unaccompanied minor is not allowed.
To check the possibility of transportation of the animal and to request the service, consult us through the Sales Center at the telephones 4004-4040 (main capitals) and 0300-789-8160 (other locations), Avianca Brazil Site or Stores with a minimum of 2 Hours prior to the flight.
The animal must be accommodated in a pet container, which can be purchased in specialized stores. The transport box must remain throughout the flight on the aircraft floor under the seat in front of it and must meet the following specifications:
Must be made of rigid plastic or highly-resistant fabric (with a water proof bottom);
Must be completely closed but allowing sufficient ventilation to the animal, however without protruding from the sides of the crate;
Must be safe enough to prevent the animal from fleeing;
Must have rounded corners to prevent harm to the animal;
Must allow the animal to stand, turn and lie down freely and comfortably, thus being suitable to the animal's size (cats and dogs being able to stand on their four legs without their ears or any part of their heads touching the top of the crate);
Must be clean and leak-proof;
Must not be made of toxic materials;
Must be in accordance with maximum size specifications.
Dimensions: Height = 25 cm, Width = 26 cm and Length = 40 cm
Animal weight + container must not exceed 10 kg.
It is not necessary to sedate the animal.
Pet Age Limits
Puppies or kittens younger than eight (8) weeks will not be accepted due to dehydration effects caused by air travel.
For puppies or kittens younger than twelve (12) weeks of small breeds and more susceptible to dehydration, a declaration from the veterinarian attesting that they are in good condition to be transported will be required.
Female cats and dogs that are pregnant, in heat or nursing
Avianca does not accept pregnant females unless there is a certificate issued by the veterinarian certifying that the animal is in good condition for travel and that there is no risk of birth during travel.
Avianca does not accept for transporting females in the heat, or still breastfeeding, nor unweaned animals.
Warning: if the above mentioned specifications are not met, Avianca Brasil will not carry the animal.
Pets (dogs and cats) will be able to travel on domestic flights from Avianca Brasil.
Your pet will fly in the same aircraft as you, except in the cargo bay. Do not worry! The environment is safe and pressurized.
To verify the possibility of transportation of the animal and to request the service, consult us through the Sales Center at the telephones 4004-4040 (main capitals) and 0300-789-8160 (other locations) up to 72 hours before the flight.
After confirming the service, present yourself the check-in counter at the airport at least 2 hours before the departure time with 3 printed, filled and signed from the form "Carriage of Animal in Hold".
General rules for the transport of animals (dogs and cats) in the cargo compartment:
Only 1 (one) box is allowed to carry animals per flight.
The shipping carton must be provided by the customer and conform to the specifications described below.
Some breeds of animals are not accepted for transportation.
Races considered aggressive require specific box for transportation.
We do not transport animals in the hold on international flights and Interline (together with another airline).
The maximum travel time for transport is 6 (six) hours, with a maximum of 1 (one) connection.
We do not transport animals in the hold of the A330 aircraft.
The minimum age for the animal to be transported is 4 (four) months.
The last feeding of the animal before embarkation should be reduced and made no more than two hours before boarding to avoid discomfort during the flight.
Sedation is not recommended. In case of need, the company must present a prescription from the veterinarian with the name of the medicine, the time of application and the route of administration.
Only animals that are sanitized and in good health will be accepted.
Pregnant females, in heat, who have given birth within 7 (seven) days prior to shipment; Or who are breastfeeding can not be transported.
Box for transporting pets (dogs and cats) in the cargo compartment of the aircraft
The animal transport box can be purchased from specialist stores and must meet the following specifications:
Maximum total weight of 32 kg (animal plus transport box).
Maximum dimension of 110 x 70 x 80 cm (length x width x height).
Made of rigid material (glass fiber, metal, hard plastic or welded metal mesh).
Hard floor, waterproof, lined and clean.
Solid top. Ventilation holes are allowed as long as they do not diminish the strength and stiffness of the roof.
Secure door, closed with padlock or wire seal.
Be large enough to allow the animal to stand in a natural position, turn around and lie down.
There should be one water container in each shipping carton.
It is prohibited to contain familiar articles in the transport box (eg toys).
You will not be allowed to board food with food inside the transport box.
Only one animal per transport box is allowed, unless they are accustomed to living together, being:
At most 2 (two) adult animals up to 14 kg each, compatible. Animals over this weight should be transported in separate boxes.
Animals up to 6 (six) months of the same litter, up to 14 kg each. A maximum of three puppies can be accommodated in the same transport box, respecting the maximum weight limit of 32 kg of the animals with the transport box).
Breeds of animals not accepted for transport
Some species of brachycephalic animals (short snout, flattened) are not accepted for transport on our aircraft. Here are some examples:
Dogs: Boston Terrier, Bulldog (and its variations, French Bulldog, English Bulldog, etc.), Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Deutscher Boxer, Bordeaux Mastiff, Griffon Belge, Petit Brabançon, Tibetan Spaniel, Japanese Spaniel (Chin), Pug, English Toy Spaniel, Pekingese, Tibetan Mastiff, Griffon Bruxellois, Shar Pei, among others.
Cats: Birman, Exotic Shorthair, Himalayan and Persian.
Transport of dogs considered of aggressive breeds
The transport of dogs considered aggressive breeds, large in size over 35 cm are accepted only if they are accommodated in a metal transport box. Here are some examples:
American Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Terrier, Canary Mastiff, Doberman Pinscher, Argentine Mastiff, Brazilian Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff, American Pit Bull Terrier, Rottweiler and Tosa (Japanese Mastiff).
Important: If the animal exhibits aggressive behavior or some other type of abnormal demonstration of its state, its embarkation should be denied, as it could endanger its life and harm the operation.
The service is temporarily unavailable for international flights.
Service animals are welcome on our flights. The transport of these animals in the passenger cabin is free of charge.
In addition to presenting mandatory documentation of the animal, in sections whose flight time exceeds 8 hours, the passenger must provide the documentation proving that the animal will not need to carry out its physiological needs during the flight or that the animal will fulfill its needs in a way that does not Compromise the health and sanitary status of the flight.
Trained Guide Dog
The guide dog trained for disability assistance will be transported free of charge in the cabin on the aircraft floor adjacent to its owner. This seat will be determined by the airline. The dog must travel on leash and under the control of its owner.
In order for the animal to be accepted, the mandatory documentation must be submitted. There is no restriction on boarding a guide dog when there is another animal on the flight.

Emotional Support Dog
The emotional support dog carrier is specific for people undergoing therapeutic treatment. In these cases, on domestic and Latin American flights, the passenger must present to the airline a medical report called MEDIF. On the routes to / from the United States, it is necessary to have a certificate or letter from a mental health professional.
The above mentioned documents must be issued by a mental health professional, stating that:
1) The passenger has no mental or emotional capacity;
2) The passenger needs emotional or animal service support for air travel and / or activities at the passenger's destination;
3) The medical professional who provides the assessment is a qualified mental health professional who proves that the passenger is under his or her professional care;

National and Latin American Flights
The emotional support dog is exempt from the transport box provided he is trained, traveling at or below the seat, without obstructing corridors or emergency exits. Otherwise, the dog must be accommodated in transport boxes, following the same requirements and dimensions of the transport of pets in the cabin.
Flights to / from United States
To comply with safety regulations, the animal should sit at the customer's feet, without advancing in the corridor and behaving well (for example, the animal is not allowed to bark, growl, jump to other people or animals). For smaller animals, customers may choose to use an approved carton box.

Vaccine portfolio of the animal and certificate of rabies vaccination: to prove that it keeps all vaccines up to date. The rabies vaccine needs to be applied 30 days to one year from the date of shipment. The name of the producing laboratory, type of vaccine and the number of vaccine/ampoule used should be included. Puppies under 3 months old, and therefore without the first vaccine, will only be shipped with the express authorization of the veterinarian.
Animal Health Certificate: issued by a veterinarian, proving that the animal is in good health and keeps all vaccinations up to date. The health certificate (sanitary) of the animal will be valid for 10 days from the date of issue.
Documentation for flights to and from Brazil, Colombia and the United States:
Animal Health Certificate: issued by a veterinarian, proving that the animal is in good health and keeps all vaccinations up to date. The animal's data must be stated in this document, such as: breed, color, name, owner's data, address and so on.
Certificate of rabies vaccination: must contain the dog's identification information and specify the date of vaccination and its expiration. The rabies vaccine needs to be applied 30 days to one year from the date of shipment. If there is no indication of the expiration date of the vaccine administered on the animal, it should not be longer than 12 months of shipment. Puppies under 4 months old can not be transported.
International Zoosanitary Certificate - CZI (or International Veterinary Certificate - CVI): the CZI must be presented in its original route, issued by the official authorities of the country of origin. The certificate shall include full compliance with health requirements.
(OPTIONAL) Passport for dogs and cats: the Passport for Dogs and Cats is not required for international travel. However, it can be used for countries that accept it as a substitute for the International Veterinary Certificate (CVI), which is compulsory for the international transit of dogs and cats. In addition to the documentation already mentioned, some countries require additional documentation:
The documentation of the animal must be presented in Portuguese in the original language or by sworn translation.
It is necessary that the health certificate of the animal contains information that it has been treated internally and externally with anti-parasite products authorized in the country of origin (worming).
Animal deworming certificate: deworming should occur no more than 30 days prior to shipment. In this document the following information should be mentioned: dosage of vermifuge, date of application / administration in the animal, date on which the anti-parasitic becomes active.
The International Zoosanitary Certificate - CZI: The CZI must be valid for a maximum of 10 days and must be submitted in the languages of the country of origin and in Spanish. Animals from an EU Member State must have an animal passport or a zoo-sanitary certificate.
It is necessary that the health certificate of the animal contains information that it has been treated internally and externally with anti-parasite products authorized in the country of origin (worming);
It is prohibited to transport the following dog breeds or crosses thereof: Staffordshire Terrier, Pit Bull and American Pit Bull Terrier.
Negative Health Certificate for Myiasis: documentation attesting that the animal was assessed within 5 days prior to travel and is free of the presence of myiasis. This documentation is required for entry of the animal into the United States.
